Never before has been zealotic love come out on big screen, then when Darr happened. The story of a brutal lover, who chases the girl he loves till the end, can write the name of her on his hand bruised through knife. Darr brought out a new dimension to the romantic films where a villain is given the most screen space.
Sunil Malhotra (Sunny Deol), who is a Naval officer, and Kiran Awasthi (Juhi Chawla) are about to get married. Rahul Mehra (Shahrukh Khan) is madly in love with Kiran (they both are college mates), who is oblivious of his feelings for her. Rahul keeps following her, calling her on phone. Kiran is deeply troubled by Rahul’s behavoir, although Rahul’s identity is not revealed. Sunil and Kiran go to Switzerland, keeping it secret as that chasing lover
doesn’t know about this and troubles Kiran there too. But things turn out and Rahul kills Annu Kappoor and proves it to be that obsessed lover.
Hearing this Kiran’s brother and sister-in-law are relieved and they reveal where Kiran is.
Rahul bumps into them in Kiran and Kiran informs Sunil that Rahul was in love with some girl whom noone knew. On asked by Sunil, Rahul informs that
the girl is married and says that he wants to kill his husband. Everyone takes this in jest. But Rahul motive was the same. Sunil gets to know about this
and beats Rahul badly but Rahul dupes him and indeed kills him. And takes Kiran on forcefully. Don’t worry there is some suspense still left.
The movie is all about this brutal-stammerer lover played by Shahrukh Khan. Either he acted so well that editor ended up making the film around him
or the writer thought it that way only. This made Shahrukh the household bad man. This kkkkkk Kiran guy was so detested, speaks volumes about
Shahrukh’s act in the movie. Juhi had to play a frightened girl, she was able to do that. Sunny was to do some action only, beating shahrukh every now
and then, except that he wasn’t given any screen space.
This was a great cinema with a love story around this eccentric lover. Great direction and a different love story out of a YashRaj banner.
